About me?

I am a graphic/web designer living in the DC area in the USA. I was born in Taiwan. Yes, that's right English wasn't my first language. This is my site for things that interest me such as Graphic Design, CSS, Web Standards, lifetime to do list, traveling and the people that I've met. I went to the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. I have a full-time job that keeps me busy but I love to learn so I pick up hobbies. I love taking photos and of course, Flickr!

Web Standards

As I keep developing my site I will redo Design Rabbit (previous to SXSW Interactive 2006, it was my portfolio site), it will be back to a portfolio site one day. I started learning about Web Standards after attending SXSW 2005, in Austin TX when my friend, Elsa Kawai won the portfolio competition and we met some amazing people on the web including: Jeffrey Zeldmann, Jeremy Keith, Molly Holzschlag, Andy Clarke, Andy Budd, Richard Rutter, Jon Hicks, Aaron Gustafson, Derek Featherstone, Kyle Bradshaw, Ian Lloyd, and Patrick Griffiths. Patrick had his first @media conference in 2005 and I was lucky enough to attend. The rest is as they say... history.

Other passions.. and thoughts

I love swing dancing. There is something about it that holds a zen place in my heart, plus it gets me out of my computer chair. Laugh a lot! Treat people the way you want to be treated. Be kind. Put yourself in their shoes and you will learn something new. There are so many instances you can apply that. My friendships mean the world to me. Cross your fingers and hope/pray/do a dance that things will turn out for the best. I like to believe that I am on this earth for some reason.

Some other people that I love dearly for helping me :-* (Forgive me if this sounds like a yearbook signing)

  • Veerle and Geert (V-Dub) for being my CSS teachers, inspiration, and finding my way
  • Nicole (Nicolo): Keeping me laughing & sane...well sort of
  • Eric Johnson (Blog boy): Keeping Nicole safe/happy and for all your advice on how to write better code
  • David Cafaro: My best friend since 10th grade who is also my hosting service, fix it guy when I can't figure out what else to do
  • Gary Nguyen: Another true friend since the 10th grade, fellow Asian/advisor in life/love. Best advice ever: "Be a friend to yourself"
  • Jeremy Swanger (Tank): My twin even if I am Asian, wrong age, etc. We've teamed up for video/flash projects. Understands geek girl speak at 3am.
  • Leah K: My partner in Fused Candy. We will get the site up soon...and also my sounding board on dating/life/men
  • Jessica D.: Charity, sweetness, innocence is still around, a true friend that will go the extra mile... like pushing me around in a wheelchair at the zoo
  • Jenny C: The reward of having an Asian friend that understands what it is like trying to balance the good asian customs and the independence of being an American.
  • XOXO! Best friends forever!---Cindy Li
