The Adventures of Cindy Li
A farewell to Sue Q and her love affair with paper samples
July 13 , 2006
A farewell to a good friend, coworker, and a great artist
Sue Quigley
This is dedicated to Suzy Q as I watch her toss her beloved paper samples. She is moving to New Zealand with her hubby to become a Kiwi. They found a site on immigrating to New Zealand, apparently there has been a brain drain and they want people to move there. She’s been at AOL for 8 years and we are all going to miss her bright, laid back smile. She is/was an art director for the Diet & Fitness and Health channels. She’ll be looking for a job so if anyone knows of an art director job please let me know or email her on her site. We will all miss her and we will try and figure out who actually has the messiest pod now (I hope it isn’t me)! So Sue XOXO! You can look at this page, wherever you are and remember we loved you here!
Once upon a time...
It started innocently enough with 60lb, 100lb, then we moved on to heavier grade. In college, studying we looked at all the ranges of the colors, the textures it came in. I It was fine or so we thought… until we started attending design conferences and we couldn’t stop ourselves. We are/were addicted.
Hello, my name is Cindy and I love paper samples
We took everything they would give us. They came as cards, they came as wine bottle wrappers, and some even wrapped it cleverly as stacks of money with one dollar bills on top of the paper (that was Crane papers, they are responsible for the paper that the USA money is printed on) It even got to the point where we had to get another suitcase so we could take the samples home. (Sue was one of these people in case you were wondering if it was just me :P) They came in all shapes, corrugated, some with metallic sheen, it really is an addiction. I mean seriously we’re designers for the internet why do we need such things?

Are you taking your kiln with you? Best of luck with the move and the LONG Flight. Maybe you can break into the glass market down there. I think you are laid back enough to fit right in with the locals. Life does change for the best after AOL

Soobee! Wow. I left AOL so long ago, they hadn’t even invented this blog thing yet. It’s so nice to read everyone’s comments on how cool you are. My favorite snippet is from Ari: “I sound like a fortune cookie.” Well, I might too.
As you know, I’ve always said that change is critical to living a great life, even when it’s scary change. It invigorates your soul, it challenges you, and it keeps you young. I feel the same way about travel, so it looks like you’re about to get a double-shot of invigoration. :-) I’m not sure you could pick a more amazing place to move to, either.
Given how much Lisa and I travel, don’t be surprised if we knock on your door in the next couple years.
You’re one of the most genuine, kind, and wonderful people I know, and I’m so happy for you and Jon. The best thing about how great your future looks, is how much you deserve it.
