Halloween 2006: Creating the Baroness Costume from GI JOE

November 1 , 2006

Once upon a time

I posted a question on my site and asked what should I be for halloween. My dear friend, Daniel up w/the idea of Baroness. So I figured I’d give it a shot and used this as my inspiration.

I'll get you GI JOE…

Things you will need

  • A black vinyl or leather jacket (Hot Topic for $21, it was on sale)

    Baroness:vinyl jacket

  • leather or vinyl pants (already own)
  • Black boots (already own)
  • 2 belts to criss cross
  • Black wire glasses (I got mine from Clarie’s boutique $7,  I don’t wear glasses)
  • duct tape (already own
  • Red duct tape ($3 form Walmart
  • 3 print out of the cobra logos

    Baroness:The print

  • golf pencils (yes, golf pencils from Staples $7
  • gold spray paint ($7 from walmart)
  • self healing mat (already own)
  • pins(already own)
  • x-acto blade(already own)
  • toy gun (from Kmart: tried the other stores but no one carries guns which is good but bad for costuming purposes)
  • black spray paint
  • newspaper/drop cloth
  • velcro
  •

How to put it all together

To make the Cobra logo:

I printed out the logo out from something I found on the Google search.
I adjusted it in photoshop to be a good size for me.
Then I made it a little more narrow for my arms.
I taped red duct tape on the self-healing matt with a bit of overlap (so when you peel it off it is already stuck together)
Then pined the printout of the logo over the duct tape and started cutting it out.

Applying it to the jacket:

My jacket only came with three snap buttons on the bottom. I needed it to close up at the top (so I could over heat properly :P )
I closed it all the way and put velcro to make sure it was closed.
Then I put the main cobra logo over it (centered)

Then I used the x-acto to cut it so I could get in and out of the jacket. The two little side cobra logos center it on the arm and see where you want the logo to show when (ie when you bend your arms)

To make the bullet belt:

I lined the golf pencils against a book so that the ends were all aligned and then duct taped them together.  The box I got had 144 pencils.

Since these pencils were new I decided to grind the tips down (after I pricked myself a few times w/the sharp ends) on concrete. Then put newspaper/drop cloth down and spray paint them gold.

Put it all together and you get this…

I'll get you GI JOE…

Very cool! This is by far the best outfit I’ve seen.

You’ll have to do better than golf pencil bullets though for The Man of Steel!

I’ll admit… I had a crush on the Baroness. She’s so hot in that “good girl gone bad” kinda way, like a librarian dominatrix.
