The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: Man and Woman of the year canidates

January 26 , 2007

Once upon a time

I got an email from my fellow angel, friend, creative director for aol.com, Jody Thomas asking if I would be interested in volunteering some of my time to take photos for a chartiy event called. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2007 Man & Woman of the year, honoring the canidates.” It was a no brainer once I saw the date and I was free that night. Last year a good friend of mine was diagnosed with leukemia and this was a great way to help a good cause. :)

How it went

I was a bit nervous since this was my first event. I sent Katie (an organizer) my flickr set of photos and she loved them. She was so excited to see what I could do for their event. “Phew”
So I borrowed an external flash from my friend Jason Garber, an extra 1G card, for a grand total of 5g for the event just in case. I also got spare batteries for the flash and for the camera.
I showed up (after it started snowing in DC) on time 6pm on the dot!

Inside the event

I was greeted by Katie, and Kelly. They asked me how many events I’ve shot. I looked at them and said this is my first one. :::big smile::: They said don’t worry we loved your photos and I’m sure they will be great. Everyone was so encouarging that I wanted to make sure i did a great job. We had a list of people to take shots of because they might be using them for a magazine to raise the money. They raised over $700,000 last year.

Wow, the LtLS events are great.  Our research is being supported by them.  Glad to hear you could help partake in their events.

Cindy, Thank you again for your hard and fantastic work last night. Like you mentioned above, we’re truly blown away. You personality and demeanor compliments your wonderful photography skills. To everyone: HIRE THIS GIRL! She won’t be working free for long (except for LLS - hopefully)!

Jeff Lin - where do you work/on what research project are you working?

Cindy—I also thank you again on behalf of the Society.  It was great to meet you there last night and your picture turned out amazing.  You truly have a gift.  I can’t wait to see the rest of them!  I think there’s a funny one with us behind the bar with the large bottle of wine.  That’s clearly one for the magazine ad I hope it turned out. ;)

Cindy
I work for the Society and unfortunatley, was unable to attend the event last night. The photos are wonderful--can’t wait to see the rest of them. Thanks so much for helping us to make Thursday night a memorable evening. Look forward to meeting you soon.
