The Adventures of Cindy Li
Our Ecosystem
February 28 , 2007
Once upon a time
In high school guidance counselors, teachers, and everyone I knew suggested to volunteer at local charities.
- 1. it was great for the community
- 2. it was great for your college application
- 3. It just makes you feel good to give something back.
I believe that we all have some talent that we can contribute to our “ecosystem.” We are kind, intelligent, passionate people and we need to contribute to our world in a positive way. Yes, I know I am beginning to sound like the movie ”Pay It Forward“ but it’s true. The past two weeks has been really hard on me due to some emergency dental work but even though I was laying on my couch on painkillers I was still trying to think of ways to help, that and gather my strength together (you can ask my friends). We are all capable of it. Everyone needs help at some point. Do not think it is someone else’s job to do something take initiative. Being a part of something, like our ecosystem, is bigger than you, silly that’s why they call it the “ecosystem”. Now, move your head up and down and say, “I will find a way to help.” Now go out there and find some way to make it better, and if for some reason you aren’t sure what you can do email me and I’ll find something for you. :P
Leukemia Lymphoma Society Ball
I pulled myself together to help again using my camera to take photos of the Leukemia Lymphoma Ball (raised over $260,000+ in one night). I took photos at their last event, Man & Woman of the Year. The wonderful women I have met, Kristi Kent, Katie Goode and Kelly Kent, are all part of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. They are amazing! I was asked to take photos and I hate going back on commitments I’ve made to people. They were trying to protect me by not telling me that this was “the” event of the year so when I arrived to the Washington Convention Center I almost fainted. It was amazing. I got to take photos of Bill Cosby and Hootie & the Blowfish. I took photos of all their silent auction items and just walked around taking it in. It was amazing!

Why am I doing this?
Because I care! Because my good friend, Philip was diagnosed with Leukemia and I wanted to do something to help. It had been a while since I could “find time” in my schedule to help but I did it! :P
Side note
I didn’t even realize this but my coworkers, Bill Knight and his wife, Tom Osborne(all three are UF alumni) and Elsa Kawai all painted pigs for the event. They found time to paint little piggies to donate and raise money for the event! These three people are busy too and they found a way because it was important!
Please?
Pretty please with a cherry on top?
Please go find a way to go help. Whether its taking photos, showing some charity how to use a computer or even just recycling a bottle. Do it! You can start small and be part of something bigger than you! :)

Cindy, if hearts were elements, yours would be made of solid gold. Seriously, it takes a huge heart to get the strength to do what you’ve done. I didn’t get to go to the event so it was great to get a view into what took place.
By the way, Spidey always gets the fame, but I think that Watermelon pig was my better work.

aww sad! I didn’t know about the pigs, otherwise I would have participated.
I used to help raise money for Rugmark Foundation as well.
I offer to do at least two or three web site designs a year for non-profits, especially anything children related. You should post any non-profit opportunities you come across on your site!

That’s a great idea. We should do something at AOL for that next year :)

Deidre Knight gets credit for inspiring us to all paint the pigs.
