Privacy on the web?

June 5 , 2006

Once upon a time…

friends posted photos of each other so they could share them on the internet. It was so easy to use. They posted blogs about things that they thought about and things that interested them. What a great way to keep up with your friends. They even created a contact list or blog roll.  My friends are cool and so are yours. They created links and collections of those links and shared them. Cause sharing is fun.

Privacy? What’s that?

I think about safety and it is something that is starting to concern me even more now. With the Web 2.0 movement ( :::insert sarcasm now:::: oh gosh, does this mean I owe O’Reilly money now ? ) How easy is it for you to be found and located and stalked? What are the kids that are posting myspace, flickr, and etc.. going to do when they apply for jobs later on? What rights do people have for their data not to be shared? A few of us have had discussions about identity theft and i think this article, Why Web 2.0 will end your privacy. makes you think a little about what the companies (that many of us work for) are doing. Just remember nothing is for free.

Ran across this interesting tid bit:

Seems like the NSA may have found an easier way to track US citizens without having to tap phone lines. The’ll just use everying posted as part of the Web 2.0 revolution…

Or course, you know me, I’m a privacy freak….
