The Adventures of Cindy Li
SXSW 2007: Tags to Riches. Dude! I’m on a panel!
January 12 , 2007
Once upon a time
I came home after working on “Project X” for AOL and got a MSN message from Cheryl Lead (Virgin Money) and right at the same time Scott Gledhill also was trying to get my attention. The message from Cheryl was, “would you be interested in speaking on our panel at SXSW?" Picture me, sitting at my computer and mouth dropped open. I am really honored you have no idea. Veerle, Geert and Norm have been trying to encourage me to speak. Some of you will find this surprising or not so. I am afraid of public speaking. But hey its 2007 and I do not want to continue being scared, and I can check this off my lifetime to do list. So back to the story, the panel is called “Tags to Riches.” The people on the panel are Molly Holzschlag, Cheryl Lead and Scott Gledhill. Maxine Sherrin is moderating the panel.

From <tags> to Riches: Life after Code
The official description: “You know web standards backwards and have redesigned countless websites. You don’t want to do it forever, but you don’t need to start from scratch either: what you have is an excellent foundation. In an industry where career paths and professional development options are yet to crystallize the array of choices can be bewildering. Where to? Five panelists discuss the challenges of their diverse journeys out of the xhtml trenches.”
It is about what career options are available to you after you leave code, but I’m the reverse of that design into code (trying at least) and with two of my heroes by my side (Jason Garber and Kevin Lawver) how can I fail? :D
SXSW here I come
I hope you will attend and please watch out for the people that are bringing the plastic sheeting just in case I do throw up ;-)
Thanks to the Aussie pack for inviting me. I’m really honored you think I have something to offer to your already amazing panel!
:::BIG HUG FOR EVERYONE:::
And now back to planet earth of AOL and Project X.

All the cool kids are on a panel. Welcome to the club! I will be sure to be in the front row, heckling you, alongside Mr. Garber.

I’ve painted wood panelling before but to see you on a panel would be cool too. I’ll definitely be attending your session. Beware. Now ... let me think of a off the wall question to ask. I’ll need a stumper ... bwahahaha. :)

Yes for a bit but here’s the side story. I found out and then 15 minutes later my client showed up. We were having trouble w/the usb key and I was trying to do my best to seem calm but I was too excited. I ended up hugging him because he was there. :P

It’s going to be very cool with you on the panel Cindy! What a way to do your first public speaking gig :-)
p.s. When I found out our panel was accepted I jumped up and had a freak out in my office… then I couldn’t even work for a couple of hours. haha
