Once upon a time
Ficlets was the brain child of Kevin Lawver. Kevin asked Jason Garber and I to be added to his dream team (as Kevin called it). Then Jenna Marino (here’s her blog post about the branding of ficlet’s ) and Ari Kushimoto. :) This magical team created something wonderful for AOL in the startup fashion that usually gets lost in a big company. It was launched the week before SXSWi 2007. It was my final project for AOL so it holds even more meaning for me than you guys will ever know.
The cool thing about Ficlets, it is a short story writing website where you can write prequels and sequels as many times as you can dream up and others can add to your stories if they so wish to. It’s great and it’s even better that it recently became a finalist for the SXSWi Web Awards 2008 in the CSS and Community categories.
Another local DC homegrown project is by Chris Bucchere, who’s feedhaus.com became a finalist in the technical achievement arena and Samantha Warren’s website in the Blog category. :)
So check these sites out if you have a second and don’t forget to vote for the People’s Choice Award!

The SXSW Web Awards will be extra special for me as well. The Library of Congress is also a finalist in the blog category.

Congrats to the Ficlets team. That’s awesome. SXSW is going to be great. My returning flight is pretty early on Wednesday morning, so I guess I’ll be going home without sleep again after IHOP.
